Day 2

HOLA Familia y amigos!! (we are really getting good at our Spanish)

Day 2 started early around 7:30 am with everyone's personal alarm clock aka Jason Wudi. We packed up all of our bags onto the school bus and headed back to the gym for rematch vs. the Nicaraguan team.

The match this morning went a little better; we ended up losing 1-3 but put up a better fight. We had to say goodbye to our friends we made at our matches (the little kids), they said goodbye to us with high-fives and fist bumps as me made our way out the building.

Once the match ended we jumped back on the bus and headed to San Juan del Sur. Along the way we stopped to eat at Pollos Narcy's. We had the most amazing, juicy roticery chicken, rice, some baked potatoes. After lunch we made some quick friends outside playing music. The rest of the ride to San Juan was spent taking pictures of the bonito (beautiful) scenery.

We arrived at our hotel (located across the street from the beach) around 4 pm. We unloaded, got our rooms, had a quick team meeting; then were free to roam a bit, shower, and then get ready for dinner. A few of us walked into the ocean for the first time, myself (Em Zupon) and Jenny B. Others tried their best bartering for bracelets and other assorted jewelry with the nearby street vendors.

Next on our agenda was walking down the street along the beach to watch the sunset and then eat dinner. All of us hung out on the porch and soaked up the atmosphere for a while before eating. We enjoyed some peach mango flavored juice and our entree consisted of linguine noodles topped with veggies in a peanut (almost peanut butter flavored) cream sauce. Let's just say some of us liked it, and some of us didn't. :D We finished up dinner by watching the Packers lose.

Jackie, Amanda, and I are hanging out on the front patio of our hotel right now. Jackie and Amanda are utilizing the hammocks as I sit between them in a rocking chair typing. Right now the weather is kind of windy and the temperature is extremely comfortable. The rest of our evening is going to be spent relaxing around our hotel and resting up for tomorrow's activities. The plan for tomorrow is to eat breakfast at 8:30 am, depart the hotel at 10 am to go zip-lining! We are, for the most part, really excited about it. In the afternoon tomorrow we are going to go help coach at a volleyball clinic in the area at the outdoor court where we will play the Nicaraguan team on Wednesday.

Hasta Luego!!!
Amanda, Jackie, Em Zupon.

  1. Hola! It's so fun to read about everything you are doing! Allan and I were in Wis. Dells last night for a company party. Abby Frieborg and her EC-Air team were staying in our hotel. She says Hi. It was a very cold weekend, but don't feel sorry for us. We're getting a heat wave this week - all the way up to 37 degrees in Madison on Wednesday! Mary V.

  3. Annie S. and teammates--That ziplining looks really fun. Look forward to hearing about it. That's great--all the interaction with the local children. I'm sure it's big excitement for them too. This blog is a great idea.

  4. Dani- Sounds like so much fun getting the chance to go zip lining through the forest. Have you friends take some great pictures for me. I will just stay up here in the North Dakota tundra with a good 24 inches of snow surronding me. Have fun!
